Hello! I’m Santiago Zapata, a Gold Seal CFI, CFII, MEI and chief instructor at a flight school in Iowa. I’m originally from Colombia and moved to the United States in 2019 and completed my flight training in Florida. I was thrilled when our co-founder, Joe Reed, asked me to contribute to this project because, for far too long, I have seen students struggle with understanding the process of completing their cross country navigation logs.
I am truly excited to share this with both my students and with you. I assume you’re here because you’ve gone in search of help with one or multiple issues that you’ve encountered. This course is designed precisely for you and I hope it gives you everything you need and more.
Hi all! I'm Joe Reed, the co-founder of Precision Pilot Labs. I passed my private pilot checkride in June of 2024 and am not sure I can count how many navigation logs I completed across all of the XC training flights and checkrides that were weather-canceled, but there were A LOT. I also clearly remember that faint sense of dread every time I sat down with a blank navlog sheet.
Would I be able to gather the data I needed without running into a question or issue that would stop me in my tracks? It was never certain.

What skill level is this program for?
Most people who find themselves here are student pilots studying for their private certificate. That said, pilots at all levels will encounter navigation logs at every level of their training. They're the gift that keep on giving! CFIs who dislike teaching nav logs might also end up here and there should be extreme value for them as well. This system can easily be implemented in the classroom.
